Your Heart Is An Empty Room

Fragile little girl
let see those bones of yours.
Rattle your ribcage
just to awaken that heart,
that empty empty heart
an empty room
little girl.
Give me a rope to tie your bones
– no, a ribbon is prettier –
your body will be bones and bows,
waiting for someone to pull the chord
and watch you
                           unravel.
You’ll fall to the floor little girl,
your heart will click open like a locket,
no amount of string can hold it:
your still-born child
(that little heart)
that never got to breathe.
Your heart is an empty room.

Your Heart Is An Empty Room

What inspired me: This poem was written based around the quote ‘your heart is an empty room’ which led me to write a rather personal piece about my own issues of inner and bodily weakness and fragility.
